Previously, each type of service had its own network built: telegraph network, telephone network, broadcast network, data transmission network. Each service provider built and developed a network designed to provide only a specific type of service.
With the development of digital technologies, data transmission services are being unified, and communications are moving into a digital format. Today, the transmission of voice, data, and multimedia can be carried out over one network - a new generation multiservice network.
A multiservice network is a universal, multi-purpose medium designed to transmit voice, video and data using packet switching (IP) technology. A multiservice network is distinguished by the degree of reliability characteristic of telephone networks (as opposed to the unguaranteed quality of communication over the Internet) and provides a low cost of transmission per unit of information volume (close to the cost of data transmission over the Internet).
The main task of multiservice networks is to ensure the operation of heterogeneous information and telecommunication systems and applications in a single transport environment, when a single infrastructure is used to transmit data traffic, voice traffic, video and other services.
Multiservice networking is not really a technology or technical concept, but rather a technological doctrine or a new approach to understanding the role of telecommunications today, based on the knowledge that computer and data are now taking precedence over voice communications.
To optimize the use of existing telecommunication networks in the Republic of Belarus and the construction of new networks by telecommunication operators, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated October 30, 2010 No. 515 “On some measures for the development of the data transmission network in the Republic of Belarus,” a unified republican data transmission network (URDN) was created ).
The URDN is a multi-service telecommunication network, the purpose of which is to unite the telecommunication networks of republican government bodies, local executive and administrative bodies, and other government bodies, thereby simplifying access to services and contributing to the development of the telecommunications industry. Private companies and individual entrepreneurs can also join their telecommunication networks to the URDN.
